Nomadic encampment
Middle Atlas Mountains

In the Middle Atlas, a group of nomads has camped and set up its tents (made of their own black wool) in a circle, as is their tradition. Such a circle of tents is called a douar ("circle"). They are in a middle elevational range, indicating that they are halfway between their winter lowlands pasture and their summer highlands pasture. They are transhumants.

These nomads, herding their sheep and goats over vast distances within a given yearly cycle of migration, move within a range of territory within what they consider their own tribal territory. They generally camp in the same locations each year.
