Children practicing their fishing skills. The water in this harbour was extremely polluted, and anything caught would probably be inedible. As soon as young children can move around they must be tethered to the boat to keep from drowning. In the past gourds were tied to children as floatation devices, and even bracelets that were supposed to have saving powers were used. Unfortunately parents have usually been more concerned about losing male children than females, and in times past girls were not viewed as worth making an effort to protect.
