In much of the country of West Texas, virtually a land unto itself, the livestock of choice are not cattle or sheep (although each of those has a distinguished history there) but in the present, goats that are raised for their mohair. Their long and silky hair is prized in the sweater and clothing markets, and this is the center in the West for production.
