Corn Palace
Mitchell, South Dakota (1985)
There is no Disneyland in South Dakota, there is the Corn Palace built annually in Mitchell, South Dakota to commemorate the State's notable agricultural heritage. While there is something transcendent about a palace built of corn, there is also something wonderfully tacky about the whole scene, as well. But the same can be said of Disneyland, perhaps. What is dramatic about the Corn Palace is that it is, to some extent, a very genuine and heartfelt act of faith in the local economy.
