The elkhorn arch is an instantly recognizable cultural icon for Jackson Hole, Wyoming. That it may not carry garner the same praise and admiration now that it would have found two decades ago is a tribute to the changing fortunes and fashions of tourism. But to the credit of the Jackson principals, they keep the arches up. Hunting was a major support to the Jackson economy in the last hundred years, and still provides much revenue. But hunting is also a sizable turnoff for some visitors.
