Gila River Indian seal
Gila Indian Reservation, Arizona (1988)
The Gila River Indian Community, just outside of Phoenix, in the Valley of the Sun, is one of the Native American communties much affected by the escalating value of water in the Southwest. Although the number of Indians within the reservation community is relatvely small, they are rather better off than many other Indian settlements elsewhere in the Southwest, thanks in large part to their water supply, and to the demand for that water in the nearby city of some two million people.
