Laguna Pueblo sign
Laguna, New Mexico (1991)
The Laguna Pueblo, in northwest New Mexico, is by no means untypical of Indian reservations in the American Southwest. Notably poor, the Laguna have a small swatch of land that is but a portion of their ancestral land. Of course, there are also probably far more Laguna now than was historically the case, and many of them live in nearby towns, but off the reservation. One of the means of making money on the reservation is by charging use fees, and access is highly restricted.
