Colorado mining town
Silverton, Colorado (1986)
Silverton, one of the most elegant and quiet of the former mining towns of central Colorado, is a fine example of the changes that come over communities as their economic bases change. Still sleepy and quiet when this photograph was taken, Silverton has become far busier, even approaching hectic, in the last decade, as more and more "urban refugees" make their move into the high country of the Colorado Rockies. This is changing life very quickly, and in ways that are not popular with all who lived there before. It is a continuing trend, however.
