Ojo del Gallo ditch
Ojo Del Gallo, New Mexico (1986)
The Ojo Del Gallo (eye of the Chicken) Ditch Association is one of the community water associations so typical of Hispanic settlement of the Southwest. This group maintains their ditches and water rights (here commemorated in a sign that notes also that the group is receiving a federal grant to help maintain the ditch) by devoting a monthly individual ration of labor to keeping up the ditch and its works. This provides irrigation water for the fields, and guarantees community commitment.
