The wonderfully odd and eccentric views that little towns sometimes take on for themselves are amply reflected in this sign, put up for touristic purposes, by the townspeople or Arco, Idaho, the first town in the United States lit by atomic power. That the townspeople take pride in this is charming enough. That they have done so for 50 years is even more remarkable. But the West is full of such peculiarities, and it is evidence enough that places consistently wish to be "different."
