The proliferation of people in the Southwest has seen some interesting and correlated demand for recreation. The area has become an enduring and attractive destination for tourists who want golf, palms, luxuriant vegetation, and libations, all in the middle of the desert. Scottsdale, Arizona, has come to represent a certain intersection of this desire for indulgences, exceeded of late only by Las Vegas, Nevada. But where Vegas is for many still a pivot of sin and the salacious, Scottsdale pretends to be tasteful.
