Take Aim at Hunters
Paonia, Colorado (1993)
Whether hunting is a legitimate use of public lands or not is an interesting question, but there can be little doubt that hunters are thinking of themselves in the American West as an increasingly endangered species, as the anti-hunting movement, or pro-animal rights movement, picks up steam. This is a statement not so much about the decline of the rural West, where faith in the character-building value of hunting is an article of faith, as a comment on how other parts of the West are growing, with urban and urbane populations that see hunting as unmitigated barbarism.
