Ribbon Falls is the highest free-leaping waterfall in Yosemite, and California, and North America, and one of the highest in the world. It plunges down the cliffs west of El Capitan, almost opposite Bridalveil Falls, ensconced in a narrow amphitheater of its own making that ensures it can only be seen from directly in front.

This is a remote and ephemeral falls. Its base is over 1500 feet above the valley floor, and its top more than 3000. It is best seen from the southside road just opposite Bridalveil Falls -- there is no trail that affords a good view. It is fed by a tiny stream, and disappears soon after the last snowbanks in the valley rim forests have melted away.
