On 08:15 August 6th, 1945 one atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. The total energy released by the Hiroshima bomb was equivalent to approximately 15 thousand tons of TNT.

It is estimated that 140,000 (plus or minus 10,000) had died by the end of December 1945. Even now, 60 years after the dropping of the bomb, there are victims who are still suffering from the damage done by the radiation. In the year between August 2004 and July 2005, 5,375 people have died, making the total number of identified victims to 242,437 as of July 2005.

By around 1985, the total destructive power of nuclear weapons accumulated by the five nuclear powers was estimated at 22,000 megatons (22 billion tons; TNT equivalent). This is equal to 1,470,000 bombs of the type dropped on Hiroshima. Based on simple calculations, this volume is enough to kill about 200 billion people, or the present population of the planet more than 35 times over.

We still have 28,595 or more nuclear warheads on this planet.(Source:SIPRI Yearbook 2004)

I've taken some VR movies "in" the Genbaku-dome(Atomic bomb dome) for the WW2Panorama project. It will appear soon at the site.
