Flying over Blyde River Canyon in South Africa, as a pilot I was awestruck by this experience and the versatility of the modern helicopter aircraft, here piloted by Brett. I asked where we would set down in a emergency and Brett told me that the default plan was to auto-rotate into the river... Yikes, thankfully my camera did not get wet and neither did I. The Blyde Canyon in South Africa is the third largest in the world, breathtaking at 600-800m (3000 feet) deep and 24 km long. This amazing place can only be explored from the air by a helicopter. You will notice the pilot's left hand holding a handle, this is called the "collective" which controls both throttle and the angle of the rotorblades, so in his left hand the pilot controls power and height over the ground, with his right hand he direct the aircraft his feet control the rotation of the aircraft.

Equipment:
The entry was photographed using my Canon Pro1 with a Nikon FC-E9 lens, mounted in my lightweight travel pano head, on a Gitzo tripod. I do not use a indexer but instead uses a extension tube from Manfrotto. Image was stitched in PT-gui, composite in Photoshop and QTVR created with PanoCube.
